About

Michael Barros teaches Literature, History, and Theology at Boise Classical Academy. He is a doctoral student at Northcentral University where he studies General Psychology. He has published papers on literary criticism and psychology, and he has research interests in theology and philosophy as well.

During his time in the U.S. Air Force, Michael did funerals and flag ceremonies as a Base Honor Guardsman, commanded and monitored spacecraft as a Satellite Systems Operator, and developed/taught telemetry, tracking, and commanding courses as a Staff Instructor. After leaving the Air Force, he first worked at Raytheon in the intelligence community conducting missile warning operations as an Operations Engineer. After that, he became a Systems Engineer, where he was part of the integration team for the JPSS-CGS. While enlisted, he got the chance to manuever spacecraft and take part in the earliest stage of a new satellite constellation. However, as a civilian, he was privileged to get to be a part of a pre-launch team alongside NASA and NOAA personnel.

Michael has also worked in construction, as a janitor, as an electrician, as an entrepreneur, as a handyman, and as a horse walker.

His educational background is as odd and diverse as his work history:

  • A.A.S. in Air & Space Operations Technology - Community College of the Air Force

  • B.S. in Electronics Engineering Technology - East Coast Polytechnic Institute

  • B.A. in Mathematics - Southern New Hampshire University

  • M.A. in Biblical & Theological Studies - Trevecca Nazarene University

  • Ph.D. in Psychology - Northcentral University (expected graduation: 2023)

When he's not working or doing research, he can be found on the roster for various US Chess tournaments, you just have to scroll down to last place.
